Special needs trainer
Hi! I am Marcus, a Counsellor and a trained Special Needs Educator with experience working with individuals and families from various backgrounds, and across different life stages. I received my Masters of Counselling from Swinburne University of Technology, and Diploma in Special Education from the National Institute of Education.
My therapeutic approach involves an amalgamation of modalities, including Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Redecision Therapy and Family Therapy. Prior to being a counsellor, I had experience working in the local public education sector, specifically with students aged 7 to 12 years old.
As a Special Needs officer, I curated personalised intervention plans, as well as collaborated with multiple stakeholders (e.g., families, teachers, school leaders, external agencies) to provide an inclusive and developmental environment for my students. Apart from these, I spent some time working in the non-profit sector collaborating with partners such as donors, community partners and volunteers, as well as developing volunteer management capabilities.
In my free time, I plays in a band, and volunteer as a mentor for individuals and couples transiting from tertiary students, to working adults and young families. I believe that everyone is on a personal pilgrimage to learn and relearn about life. Having been a recipient of community support during my adolescent years, I aspire to pay it forward by facilitating reconciliation among individuals and families, including couples. This is established by my personal conviction that every person deserves to enjoy life to its fullest; together with the people that we’d like to take the journey of life with.
